The week long Mountain View Summer Music Festival included August 12th to honour the Liberation of Holland.  The two exhibits included were the Maple Leaf and the Tulip and the Dutch War Brides. Fred van Zuiden, author of Best Seller "Call Me Mom" was present at 6.00pm speaking and dedicating his book about childhood survival in occupied Holland. There was a recital by Soprano Hilda Chasia Azfernfeld Smith singing Yiddish songs.  The movie "Portrait of Wally" about looted Nazi art and its restitution was shown

Unveiling of Sculpture at Amersfoort Kamp

Fred has recently returned from the Netherlands where he was an honoured guest
at the unveiling of the Eric Claus Sculpture in Memory of those who at great personal
risk  hid people during the war. The event was presided over by the Director
General of the Anne Frank House in Amsterdam. See Amersfoort Memorial Tab.

European Battlefield Tour Summer 2015

European Battlefield Tour by Bishop Grandin High School. Please join us July 31st as Fred van Zuiden
signs his best seller CALL ME MOM about an 11 year old's survival during WWII. The book
is a best seller with over 9,000 sold and now translated into Dutch as Zeg Maar Mamma.

Foundation to honour those who hid people (Stichting Schhuilplaatsverleners)

The aim of this group (many of whom are Rotarians) has been to form a Foundation to honour those who risked life and family to hide people during the WW II Occupation of The Netherlands. The well known sculptor Eric Claus has designed a stunning statue for the cause. The first financial aid will come from the proceeds of Zeg maar mamma, the Dutch version of Fred van Zuiden's Canadian Best Seller Call Me Mom.  A Presentation by Fred of the first Dutch edition will be made at National Monument Kamp Amersfoort in the Netherlands on March 27th.  The Event is open to the public from 3.30pm and will be attended by the media and guests from all walks of life. Signings at prominent book stores will enhance the exceptional happening.  Enquire   wim@vanzuiden.nl for stocking book stores.

Mount Royal University in Calgary-Holocaust Education Symposium May 6, 7 & 8, 2014

Fred, as an 11 year old survivor of the German Occupation of Holland in WWII will be
one of the invited speakers at this prestigious event on May 8th.  Some 3,000 local school children
will attend. Fred's book Call Me Mom about this period in his life has attained Canadian
Best Seller Status with sales of over 8,000 and has now been translated into the Dutch 
language as ZEG MAAR MAMMA.
 

SIGNIFICANT STATUE to Honour those who Hid the Persecuted

Fred van Zuiden's book Call me Mom has been translated into Dutch as "Zeg maar mamma" ISBN 9789462280267.  It has been donated towards the funding of
an important Memorial to those who hid the persecuted during the WWII Nazi Occupation of Holland.
The Amersfoort Rotarians in the Netherlands, and private individuals, are supporting and managing this exciting event.  Enquire at wim@vanzuiden.nl
